Technical training praised by Poole MP
Students and apprentices at Bournemouth and Poole College are gaining first class technical training, according to Poole’s MP.
Neil Duncan-Jordan visited the college on Friday 13 February as part of National Apprenticeship Week, touring facilities in Early Years, Marine Engineering, Engineering and Plumbing, where he observed practical sessions, met tutors and spoke directly with apprentices about their ambitions and future career plans.
After the visit, he said it was “quite clear” that learners were receiving strong educational support from professionals with long experience in their sectors, adding that the training on offer appeared to be “paying dividends” as students progressed into better jobs and long term careers.

As the region’s leading apprenticeship provider, Bournemouth and Poole College works closely with local employers to shape programmes around industry demand, combining recognised qualifications with hands on experience in workshops designed to reflect real working environments.
He was joined by Antony Carr, Executive Director of Higher Education and Skills, and Jackie Watson, Head of Apprenticeships, who highlighted how employer partnerships and investment in facilities are supporting both students and the wider local economy.
Jackie Watson said the college plays “a vital role” in equipping learners with technical expertise, confidence and work ready skills to help strengthen economic growth across the area.
