Dorset police make arrests in child abuse crackdown

Police in Dorset have made arrests and secured charges during a national week of action targeting child sexual abuse.

The activity formed part of a child sexual abuse intensification week led by the National Crime Agency and the National Police Chiefs’ Council. Dorset Police progressed investigations, safeguarded children and worked with partner agencies across the county.

Officers travelled to Gatwick Airport to arrest a suspect linked to alleged sexual offences involving a child. They also visited a school to speak directly with a child following a third party report, and met with partners to address concerns about the care of a three year old.

Detectives supported an investigation into an injured infant, interviewing a suspect who was released under investigation while enquiries continue. Another suspect was charged with exposure and outraging public decency offences, and the victim was updated in person.

The Force’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team made six arrests during the week, followed by safeguarding visits.

Detective Superintendent Jim Beashel said the activity was “a snapshot of the work that we are constantly undertaking” to protect vulnerable children and hold offenders to account. He added that tackling online abuse remains a priority and urged anyone with concerns to contact Dorset Police via its website or by calling one zero one, or nine nine nine in an emergency.
