Record £70k boost from tree recycling
A record £70,000 has been generated for five local charities after thousands of Christmas trees were recycled across Dorset and Hampshire.
More than 30 tonnes of trees were collected from homes and businesses and delivered to Eco Sustainable Solutions in Parley, where they were processed into 60 cubic metres of organic compost, equal to around 1,200 wheelbarrow loads.
The funds, raised by charging residents to dispose of their trees, were more than £5,000 higher than last year and will support Diverse Abilities, Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, Julia’s House, Oakhaven Hospice and Stewarts Garden Centre on behalf of Friends of PICU.
Eco Sustainable Solutions provided the recycling service free of charge and sponsored the Julia’s House campaign with £1,000, with Marketing Executive Bryony Hammond saying the company was “proud to play our part” in supporting five local charities.
Representatives from the charities and Stewarts Garden Centres visited the Parley site to see the composting process first-hand, as Eco continues to handle green and food waste for BCP Council and Dorset Council from its sites in Parley, Piddlehinton and Weymouth.
