Yellow warning for heavy rain

Bournemouth is expected to see heavy rain this afternoon afternoon and evening as a yellow weather warning comes into force across South West England.

The Met Office says bands of rain and heavy showers will move east during the day, bringing widespread rainfall and raising the risk of flooding and travel disruption locally. Roads in and around Bournemouth could see surface water and spray, which may increase journey times for drivers and affect public transport services.

Rainfall totals of 10 to 15mmare expected across much of the area, with up to 30mm possible in places exposed to strong south to southeasterly winds. Flooding of a small number of homes and businesses is possible, along with a chance of short interruptions to power supplies and other services.

A Met Office spokesperson said heavy rain during Monday afternoon and evening may cause some flooding and disruption to travel.

Residents are being encouraged to check whether their property is at risk of flooding, prepare essential items in case of power cuts and keep up to date with the latest forecasts as weather warnings can change quickly. The warning is in place from midday until just before midnight on Monday.
