Several schools across Dorset will close on Friday as heavy rain disrupts transport services locally.
Dorset Council has confirmed that no council-commissioned school buses will operate, with 25 schools not opening, including Queen Elizabeth’s School and Cranborne Middle School in Wimborne, after forecasts warned of localised heavy rainfall and difficult travel conditions.

Students who are unable to attend schools that remain open because of transport disruption will not be penalised, with the council stressing that safety concerns and existing road closures mean it cannot be confident buses could operate safely or return pupils home.
Explaining the decision, Dorset Council said safety had to be the highest priority, adding that conditions were “changing quickly and without warning”, with the Met Office forecasting heavy rainfall and multiple roads already closed across parts of the county.
BCP Council has not announced any school closures or transport cancellations at the time of publishing, but we’re expecting that updates will be shared if required, as the situation develops, on its website.
