Sustainable designer stages local show

A Bournemouth designer will present her first fashion show marking five years of sustainable work.

Muskan Mehan, aged 26 and based in Bournemouth, will use the Charkha Edit show to reflect her journey from postgraduate fashion study in the United Kingdom to building a slow fashion label focused on upcycling, cultural heritage and responsible production.

Originally from India, she moved to the United Kingdom to complete a Master’s degree in Fashion Design at the University of Central Lancashire, later settling in Bournemouth near family and launching her brand in 2021 with a focus on originality rather than mass produced copies.

Her label developed into EK CHARKHA, referencing the traditional spinning wheel linked to khadi textiles, with Mehan saying the name reflects handmade processes and mindful creation, adding that sustainable fashion is, in her words, “a responsibility, not a trend”.

The show will take place on 7 February 2026 in Bournemouth, marking five years of the brand, following publication of her upcycled work in an American arts journal and ahead of her planned appearance at Paris Fashion Week in March 2026.
