Reopened Turlin Moor youth club thrives
A youth club in Turlin Moor is thriving again after reopening under new local management.
The centre closed in autumn 2023 but reopened after South West Regional Assessment Centre agreed with BCP Council to take it on, following conversations with residents who said the loss of the club had left a gap for young people and families across the area.
Managing director Adrian Gunner said the organisation stepped in because youth clubs have long supported independence and resilience, adding that reductions in youth services nationally had left fewer safe spaces, with Turlin Moor seen as a place where renewed provision could benefit the wider community.

He said attendance had grown steadily, with young people returning week after week, while parents, guardians and local councillors had shared positive feedback about children being safe, occupied and supported rather than spending time at home or on the streets.
The club offers indoor and outdoor activities, games, sport and creative sessions, and is run by SWRAC staff Sue Swaine and Donnie Burgess, with additional support for arts and crafts, aiming to balance freedom with clear safeguarding expectations.
Staff say children value having a relaxed place to meet friends, while families report improved confidence and reassurance, and a local councillor described the reopening as restoring an important community space for young people to grow.
