Police appeal after town centre assault

Police are appealing for witnesses after a reported assault in Bournemouth town centre early Saturday.

It is reported that at around 7.15am on Saturday 17 January 2026, a man was punched several times by another man who was not known to him, with the incident taking place in Old Christchurch Road during the early morning when other members of the public were nearby.

Officers confirmed that no serious injuries were sustained, and a 27 year old man from Bournemouth was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm before being released under investigation as enquiries continue.

Police Staff Investigator Ellen Gough, of Bournemouth police, said officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could assist, adding that she understands members of the public intervened and asked those people to speak to police.
