Lighthouse cuts emissions with £18k boost
Energy use at Lighthouse Poole is set to fall after the venue secured more than £18,000 to replace ageing theatre lights with LED technology.
The grant of £18,316.20 from Theatres Trust, in association with the Wolfson Foundation, will allow a series of theatre profile lights to be upgraded as part of a phased plan to reduce environmental impact and move towards Net Zero.
The improvements are expected to cut running costs by around £1,500 each year, while improving energy efficiency by at least 4,815 kWh and reducing carbon emissions by more than a tonne, supporting wider sustainability work already under way at Lighthouse Poole.
Chief Executive Elspeth McBain said the funding supports practical action, explaining that the organisation is reducing its environmental impact across operations while using the arts to encourage wider change, adding that replacing traditional lighting with LEDs is a key step in that process.
Theatres Trust Chief Executive Joshua McTaggart said the support will help Lighthouse save energy and money at the same time, enabling it to continue serving audiences locally and nationally as theatres work to modernise infrastructure and improve sustainability.
