Cherries beaten by leaders Arsenal

AFC Bournemouth pushed Premier League leaders Arsenal close but were beaten three two at Vitality Stadium on Saturday.

The Cherries made a strong start and took the lead in the tenth minute when Evanilson capitalised on a misplaced pass from Gabriel, keeping his composure to find the bottom corner and give the home side early momentum.

Arsenal responded quickly as Gabriel made amends six minutes later, finishing from close range after a goalmouth scramble that followed a driving run and cross from Noni Madueke, bringing the visitors level during a lively first half.

Despite Bournemouth creating further chances through Justin Kluivert, Marcus Tavernier and Antoine Semenyo, Arsenal moved ahead after the break when Declan Rice guided a low shot into the corner from the edge of the box, before adding a second later in the half from close range.

The Cherries refused to fade and reduced the deficit when substitute Junior Kroupi struck a powerful effort from distance, created by Tavernier and Lewis Cook, setting up sustained late pressure.

Bournemouth pushed forward in search of an equaliser but were unable to find a way past David Raya, leaving Arsenal to take the points after a closely fought contest watched by 11,240 supporters.
