Sackfuls of cheer for Poole pupils

Sackfuls of donated gifts reached 178 local children at Christmas through a Poole store partnership scheme.

Families received presents after colleagues at Tesco’s Poole Extra worked with four TEACH Trust schools to distribute donations collected in the run-up to Christmas, ensuring children were supported during a period that can be financially challenging for many households across the area.

The donations were shared with pupils connected to Ad Astra Infant School, Haymoor Junior School, Canford Heath Infant School and Canford Heath Junior School, continuing an established relationship between the store and the schools aimed at supporting families beyond the classroom.

The gifts were gathered through a mix of public appeals, staff contributions, Tesco donations and fundraising activity held in store, with each child receiving items selected to provide something special during the festive break.

Community champion Carla Whitemore said it was the sixth year of the Christmas appeal and described the response as encouraging, adding that support from staff and customers helped reach families who found buying gifts difficult because of other commitments.

She said the store believed no child should miss out at Christmas and hoped the donations helped make the season a little easier for local families, reflecting ongoing efforts to support the Poole community through practical action.
