Local charities to collect Christmas trees
Christmas trees will be collected from homes across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole next week, helping raise funds for local charities supporting people with disabilities and life limiting illnesses.
Diverse Abilities is running its annual Christmas tree recycling service between Thursday 8 January and Sunday 11 January, covering Poole, Bournemouth, Christchurch, East Dorset and Ringwood, with volunteers returning to neighbourhoods to collect real trees for sustainable recycling.
The charity has operated the scheme for more than ten years, offering households a practical way to dispose of trees while raising money to support children and adults with disabilities across Dorset, with collected trees turned into soil and wood chippings.
Some of the recycled material is later used at The Treehouse, Diverse Abilities’ specialist facility supporting children and young people with profound physical and learning disabilities.
At the same time, Lewis-Manning is bringing back its Christmas Tree Collection service from 8 January, with volunteers collecting trees from households across BH postcodes to help fund care and support for local people living with life limiting illnesses.
The hospice charity says the scheme helps families clear away Christmas responsibly while contributing to services that support patients and their families across Dorset, with residents encouraged to book collections in advance through the charity’s website.
In addition, Castlepoint Shopping Centre is offering a free tree drop off point near B&Q till January 14th.
