Free Christmas meals offered in Dorset pubs

More than three hundred local people will receive a free Christmas Day meal this year through a scheme aimed at reducing loneliness across Dorset.

The Community Christmas Table initiative will see Hall and Woodhouse provide complimentary three course meals and drinks to guests spending Christmas Day alone, with around fifty managed pubs across the south taking part in the scheme.

Several Dorset pubs are involved in this year’s programme, including The Quay, The Olive Branch, The Grasshopper, The Duchess of Cornwall and The Old Granary, each hosting up to six guests on Christmas Day as part of the initiative.

Since launching in 2022, the Community Christmas Table has supported more than nine hundred people, offering a shared meal and company during a time of year that can be difficult for some members of the community.

Richard Curtis, Head of Charity at Hall and Woodhouse, said the pubs play an important role in recognising those having a challenging time and providing an inclusive space where people can feel at home and enjoy a sense of togetherness.

Places for the Community Christmas Table are offered on a first come, first served basis, with waiting lists in place if cancellations occur, and guests can either request a seat themselves or be nominated by someone else.

Anyone interested is encouraged to contact a participating Hall and Woodhouse managed pub directly by phone, email or social media.
