Care home gifts help Poole food bank

SEASON’S GREETINGS. Dressed as Christmas elves, a party of residents and team members from Colten Care’s The Aldbury collected and handed over donations of food items and toiletries to the Poole Food Bank+ satellite hub at St Clement’s Church.

Seasonal food and toiletry donations have been delivered to a Poole food bank after residents and staff from a local care home came together to support families over Christmas.

Five residents and three team members from Colten Care’s The Aldbury, a dementia care home in Poole, travelled to the Poole Food Bank plus satellite hub at St Clement’s Church in Parkstone to hand over dried foods, tinned items and toiletries collected through a community campaign.

To mark the festive visit, the group dressed as Christmas elves for the minibus journey and were welcomed at the church by ministry colleagues the Reverends Lerys Campbell, Mo Willis and Lynn Bowerman, who have been holding regular services at The Aldbury for the past two years.

After the donations were received, the visitors and hosts spent time talking together over tea and homemade cakes and mince pies, sharing updates about the work of the food bank and its role in the local area.

Resident Terry Pattison said the group was pleased to learn that the food bank supports around one hundred local families each month, helping meet ongoing needs within the community.

Companionship Team member Melissa Siat said the visit gave residents the chance to show support locally and enjoy being involved in a practical act of giving during the festive season.
