Bournemouth University climbs eco ranks

Bournemouth University has climbed five places to sixth out of one hundred and forty seven UK universities in the People and Planet University League, reflecting its environmental and ethical performance across a range of assessed areas.

The independent league is run by the student campaign network People and Planet and uses data to compare how universities manage sustainability, ethics and environmental impact across their estates, policies and engagement with staff and students.

Bournemouth University achieved an overall score of seventy five point six per cent, ranking joint first for water reduction due to rainwater harvesting and low water use per person across its buildings and facilities.

The university also ranked joint first for energy sources, based on renewable energy generated on campus and the use of a green tariff for all purchased electricity during the twenty twenty four slash twenty five period.

Performance improved across four categories including environmental policy and strategy, ethical investment and banking, staff and student engagement and water reduction, alongside full scores for environmental auditing and sustainability staffing.

Sustainability and Workplace Manager Lois Betts said the ranking reflects energy and water data showing buildings perform well and added it also highlights policies and education that help students develop skills for sustainable development in future careers.
