Arrests made after Bournemouth disorder

Four men are in custody after officers prevented anti social behaviour in Bournemouth over the weekend, following intelligence that an illegal procession and gathering was planned in the town.

Police said an organiser used social media to encourage large numbers of people to attend on various vehicles and to confront Dorset Police, raising concerns about public safety on Sunday afternoon.

A 20 year old man from Reading, believed by officers to be the organiser, was arrested at an address in Bournemouth on suspicion of causing a public nuisance.

Officers attended the suspected gathering area and seized numerous illegal vehicles, including mopeds, electric motorcycles, e scooters and adapted pedal cycles during the operation.

Three further arrests were made during the day, including two men from Bournemouth and one from Wiltshire, on suspicion of offences including dangerous driving, drug driving and possession of drugs.

Chief Superintendent Lindsay Dudfield said officers acted after residents raised concerns, adding that police dealt with individuals intent on causing harm or disruption to the community.

She said the action was important while families were visiting Bournemouth for Christmas shopping and the Christmas Tree Wonderland experience.

Councillor Richard Herrett said the council worked closely with Dorset Police, with CSAS officers supporting the operation to maintain public safety and a visible presence.
