Local walkers raise funds for NHS wards
More than one hundred people raised over £11,744 to support patient care across Royal Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch Hospitals during the Walk for Wards event at Upton Country Park and House.
The walk brought together former patients families and children, with many choosing to support wards that played an important role in their lives or cared for loved ones.
Supporters gathered throughout the day, collecting medals at the finish and sharing stories about the NHS teams they wanted to thank and remember.
All funds raised will support NHS services across University Hospitals Dorset, including Cancer Care, Theatres, Child Health and Maternity at hospital sites in Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole.
Aurelia Chliwna from the University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity said the event allows the charity to fund equipment and projects that enhance patient care and support hospital teams.
The event was supported by Hot Radio and Care South, with staff from the station also taking part in the walk.
Alan Smith from Hot Radio said supporting the charity reflects the station’s commitment to local causes and praised staff for representing the station again this year.
More fundraising events are planned, including challenge activities and Light Up the Prom in February 2026.
