New active travel link for Upton area
A safer link for walking, wheeling and cycling between Creekmoor and Upton Country Park will be created as work gets underway near the A35 outside Poole.
The scheme includes a new parallel crossing close to the park, wider footways and resurfacing. These measures are intended to make travel safer and reduce the likelihood of accidents along this busy route.
The cycleway will be widened and improved, providing a clearer connection to the underpass that carries a bridleway below the A35. This will give users better access to a traffic-free route between the two areas.
Work starts on Monday 12 January and is scheduled to take around twelve weeks using temporary traffic signals. The westbound A35 slip road to Upton Country Park will close throughout, with a signed diversion in place. Footways and cycleways will remain open and the park will continue to operate as normal.
Other restrictions will include no access to Poole Road from Creekmoor for the duration of the works, changes to local bus stops and three nights of resurfacing closures later in the project.
Councillor Jon Andrews said the improvements are important for community safety and thanked people for their patience. He added that Dorset Council has worked with BCP Council to plan an upgrade that supports more users of the footway and bridleway.
Councillor Andy Hadley said the route is an important link for families and commuters and welcomed the joint work to improve safety and create a more pleasant connection.
The project will also involve vegetation clearance to restore the available width of paths. Ecological surveys have been completed, and the work will include measures to leave habitats in better condition.
