Hayes supports homelessness action plan

A new national drive to cut long-term rough sleeping has been welcomed by Bournemouth East MP Tom Hayes.

He says the measures will help reduce the number of people without a home in Bournemouth and across the wider BCP area, where recent data shows fifty one people sleeping rough on a typical night and around four hundred and fifty children living in temporary accommodation.

The government has set out plans to halve long-term rough sleeping, end the unlawful use of bed and breakfasts for families, and prevent more households from becoming homeless.

The approach is supported by three point five billion pounds of investment over three years, including ninety two million pounds for the South West, alongside new duties for public services to work together.

Hayes, who previously led homelessness services before entering Parliament, said the country has progress to make but that the new plan offers a way forward with clear focus.

Sector leaders also welcomed the strategy, noting its emphasis on young people and strengthened support services.

Key measures include a one hundred and twenty four million pound supported housing programme, a fifteen million pound innovation scheme for councils, and reforms linked to the Renters’ Rights Act.
