Bournemouth spinathon aids charity event

More than one hundred cyclists completed a twelve hour superhero spinathon in Bournemouth, raising around £5,000 for Dorset Mind.

Held at the West Hants Club and supported by Colten Care, AFC Bournemouth Ladies and Team Mind BMX, the indoor static bike marathon marked the fourth year of the fundraiser and saw people book individual riding slots throughout the day.

Instructors Cat and Clare led the full twelve hours in costume, while Colten Care’s Director of Marketing Barney Baxendale cycled for three and a half hours dressed as Bananaman and said the shared effort reflected the generosity of the community.

He said the positive atmosphere showed how people could come together to support an important cause.

CHARITY RIDE. Cyclists at the 12-hour spinathon, held at Bournemouth’s West Hants Club, helped raise around £5,000 for mental health charity Dorset Mind.

West Hants Chief Executive Peter Elviss said the event created a lively setting at the club with members, friends and staff taking part across the day.

AFC Bournemouth Ladies Head Coach Helen Bleazard joined four players on the bikes and said she admired the stamina shown by the instructors each year.

Team Mind BMX members, including Vice-Chairman John Twitchen and British Champion Lee Hunt, also took part and highlighted the value of combining physical activity with mental health awareness.

Dorset Mind Chief Executive Linda O’Sullivan said the funds raised would help the charity support more people across the county and praised the commitment of everyone involved.
