Flood alert issued for Poole area
A flood alert has been issued for Poole Harbour and surrounding tidal areas, with flooding possible during the late morning high tide.
The Environment Agency says elevated water levels could affect parts of Poole Harbour and tidal stretches of the Lower Frome and River Piddle between 10.30am and 2.30pm on 9 December.
Forecasts show a peak level of 1.33 mAODN at around 12.30pm, which is expected to rise above tide table predictions as strong southerly winds push water further inland.
People in affected areas are being asked to stay clear of coastal roads, footpaths and car parks that may become submerged, and to avoid putting themselves or others at risk.
The Agency says it is closely monitoring the situation and will issue another update by 5pm on 9 December or earlier if conditions change.
mAODN stands for metres above Ordnance Datum Newlyn.
