Interactive sea exhibition opens in Poole

A digital exhibition bringing an interactive underwater world to life is now open at Poole Museum, marking the first major installation in the museum’s newly created Fine Gallery.

Sound of the Sea uses body-tracking sensors to place visitors’ avatars on screen, allowing them to move among imagined sea creatures that respond to motion in light and sound. The installation fills the transformed fourth-floor gallery, offering an experience suitable for all ages.

Created by Marpi Studio, the exhibition presents maritime themes through contemporary digital design. It follows international collaborations in Shanghai, San Francisco, Paris, Oslo, New York and Los Angeles, and makes its UK debut in Poole after a recent showing in Norway.

Jaine Fitzpatrick, Interim Director at Poole Museum, said the exhibition opens a new chapter for the redeveloped building and reflects Poole’s strong links with the sea.

The Fine Gallery was previously an office space and has been rebuilt with support from The Fine Family Foundation to host a wide range of exhibitions. Sibyl Fine King said the opening installation is well suited to the gallery’s purpose and to Poole’s coastal character.

The museum reopened on five November, with Sound of the Sea running until Sunday twenty-six January twenty twenty-six.
