Stop motion animation suite opens in Poole

A new stop motion animation suite has opened at Bournemouth and Poole College’s Poole campus, giving higher education learners access to professional tools and studio processes used across the animation industry.

The new facility is designed to mirror a working production environment and forms part of the growing higher education offer at University Centre Poole.

Stuart Palmer said the studio represents a major step forward for the area and will help young people gain the confidence and skills needed to enter a growing sector.

The suite contains eight self-contained workspaces with professional lighting, Canon mirrorless cameras and laptops running Dragonframe software.

Students are supported by an extensive range of materials and fabrication tools, including 3D printers, an airbrush booth and equipment for mould making and foam latex production, enabling them to build sets and puppets from initial concept through to completion.

The studio was unveiled on 5 December at a ceremony led by MP Neil Duncan-Jordan with Principal and CEO Phil Sayles, joined by representatives from The Arts University Bournemouth.

The development strengthens the college’s focus on industry-aligned higher education and supports the region’s creative skills pipeline.
