Festive bin changes for BCP and Dorset
Residents are being advised to check temporary changes to their bin collections over Christmas and New Year.
There will be no household collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day, and revised dates will apply from Monday 29 December till Saturday 17 January in BCP, and till 12th January in Dorset.
BCP Council says it cannot collect extra bags placed beside or on top of bins, and is encouraging residents to use recycling centres at Millhams in Longham, Wilverley Road in Christchurch and Nuffield in Poole for any additional waste.
However, Dorset Council says it will collect up to two extra sacks of rubbish beside your bin on your first rubbish collection after Christmas Day, and take extra recycling as usual provided it has been separated correctly and placed in a suitable sturdy container (no bags) that can be easily lifted by one person.
BCP and Dorset recycling centres will open daily from 9am to 4pm, with earlier closing times on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve and full closures on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Real Christmas trees can be taken to a recycling centre, collected by participating local charities or placed in garden waste bins by subscribers.
Councillor Andy Hadley said the revised schedule should help households plan ahead and support crews who are working through most of the festive period.
