Dorset Police launches new digital tool
Dorset Police have introduced a new digital system designed to improve how officers gather and manage video and photo evidence for investigations.
The NiCE Investigate platform brings all digital media into one secure location and allows officers to request footage electronically from residents and businesses across Dorset.
Through a community portal, people can register the location of their CCTV or other recording devices. If a crime occurs nearby, officers can see which cameras might have captured something and ask for the footage by email.
Any video shared is voluntary and officers have no direct access to the cameras.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Callaghan said the new system will give officers more time to focus on investigations. He explained that recordings often provide key evidence and the tool helps to collect and manage these files more efficiently.
Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick said the platform supports victims by ensuring evidence is handled in a clear and secure way, adding that it strengthens the link between officers and local communities through easier sharing of relevant footage.
