Hospital unveils new AUB art murals

Two large-scale murals designed by students from Arts University Bournemouth have been unveiled at the entrance to the new Royal Bournemouth Hospital building.

The installation marks the beginning of a wider art trail and supports ongoing work to create a welcoming setting for patients, visitors and staff.

The murals were produced over six months by BA Interior Architecture and Design students Emily Bishop, Yulia Klajnscek, Rhea Hackwell and Olivia Greatrex, working under the creative direction of recent graduate Lenya Hulford-Greig.

Each nine-metre design uses natural themes and local wildlife to bring colour and a sense of calm into the hospital environment.

The first piece, Emerging Kingfisher, includes photographs of local forest and seascapes taken by hospital staff.
The second, Dorset Diorama, layers well-known Dorset locations to help visitors feel connected to the wider area.

Arts Manager Laura Joy said the collaboration highlights the value of working with emerging artists and could become an annual project if funding allows.

The mural costs were met through the NHS Trust build budget, while the Arts Manager role is funded by University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity.
