Festive road safety call in Dorset

People across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole are being urged to report anyone suspected of drink or drug driving as Dorset Police increases roadside checks throughout December.

The Roads Policing Team will be carrying out extra patrols between Monday 1 December 2025 and Thursday 1 January 2026 to identify motorists who may be placing others at risk.

The campaign follows last year’s figures showing that fifteen people were seriously injured or lost their lives on Dorset roads in December, which has prompted the Force to intensify its work to keep the public safe.

Anyone who reports concerns during the Festive Feedback campaign will receive a follow-up call explaining the outcome of their report.

Inspector Joe Wheable said officers will be working day and night and asked residents to help by sharing information when they see behaviour that could lead to harm.

Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick said celebrations and darker evenings can lead to risky decisions and stressed that driving while impaired endangers all road users.

Police advise dialling 999 if someone is believed to have taken alcohol or drugs and is about to drive, and to provide details of the vehicle and direction of travel.
