Carers hear about their rights in Dorset
Unpaid carers are being offered guidance on their legal rights as Dorset Council marks Carers Rights Day today.
A series of events is running around the date to help carers understand workplace entitlements, access health support and find local services.
Councillor Steve Robinson said carers should feel informed and supported, adding that the sessions will provide expert advice and connections with others.
Carers can take up to five days of unpaid leave each year to support someone with long-term needs, and they can request flexible working from their first day in employment.
They can also register with their GP as a carer and ask for a free flu jab if they receive Carer’s Allowance or support someone older or disabled.
Dorset Council’s Bridgit service is available at any time and offers personalised guidance, a Carer Friendly ID card, assessment tools and links to local organisations.
