Student radio celebrates five national awards
Bournemouth University’s student radio station, Nerve Radio, has won five awards at the 2025 Student Radio Association Awards.
The station’s live broadcast from the Students’ Union’s Summer Ball earned Gold for Best Event Programming and Silver for Best Technical Achievement.
Led by last year’s Station Manager Jacob Dyer and Head of Digital Tech and Streaming Andrew Carter, the team delivered a 13-hour broadcast capturing live performances and the festival atmosphere.
Nerve Radio also took home Silver for Best Station Branding and Bronze for Best Chart Show Programme. Jacob Dyer received a further Bronze award for Best Presenter, highlighting his creativity and professionalism.
Jacob said the team were “absolutely thrilled” with the recognition, adding that the Summer Ball broadcast was one of their most ambitious projects.
Supported by BBC Sounds and Global, the Student Radio Awards celebrate the best student broadcasting talent in the UK. The event brought together more than 200 students and senior industry figures.
Jeffery Ononiwu, Vice President of Student Opportunities at Bournemouth University Students’ Union, praised the team, saying it was “fantastic to see Nerve Radio continuing to add to their growing collection of awards.”
Nerve Radio, part of the Students’ Union at Bournemouth University, gives students practical experience in broadcasting and media. Many alumni have gone on to successful careers in the radio and entertainment industries.
It was started in 1995 by two Bournemouth University students David Harber, who now hosts the evening slot on Bournemouth One, and James Bromley, who, along with David, went on to launch Fire 107.6.
