Local concerns raised over PCC abolition plans

Dorset’s Police and Crime Commissioner says the Home Office’s plan to abolish PCCs has created uncertainty about how policing will be held accountable in the county.

David Sidwick said the announcement came without consultation and offered no clear explanation of how oversight would work after twenty twenty-eight, adding that this raised further concerns about accountability.

He said PCCs provide a link between local people and policing when priorities are set and delivered properly. He warned that large regional structures could overlook Dorset’s needs, leaving rural areas behind.

He said he will continue to focus on delivering the Police and Crime Plan by holding the Chief Constable to account, overseeing the budget and supporting victims.
