New launch date set for tip booking

Dorset Council’s new booking system for Household Recycling Centres will now be introduced in early 2026, rather than this year as originally planned.

The system will be implemented at Dorchester, Wimborne, Shaftesbury, and Sherborne recycling centres to make visits fairer, greener, and better value for Dorset residents. By managing demand more effectively, the Council aims to help staff provide better support in separating waste, leading to higher reuse and recycling rates.

Councillor Jon Andrews, Cabinet Member for Place Services, said the delay allows time to ensure the system operates smoothly for everyone. “This is about delivering a better experience for residents and ensuring the service remains fair, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible,” he said.

The booking system is designed to protect recycling services for the future while keeping access free and simple for Dorset residents. It will also reduce misuse of sites by people from outside the county or businesses avoiding commercial fees, helping to ensure Dorset taxpayers do not bear unnecessary costs.

Residents will be able to book online or by phone, with same-day bookings and multiple visits allowed. Non-Dorset visitors will pay a small fee per visit.

All other Dorset Council recycling centres will remain open without booking for residents, except when disposing of DIY waste. Further information about how and when to book will be confirmed in the coming months.
