Low-carbon HGV depot approved in Parley

A new refuelling depot that turns local food waste into fuel for heavy goods vehicles has been approved for Eco Sustainable Solutions’ Eco Park in Parley.

The Dorset firm will use biomethane produced at its new anaerobic digestion plant, which is due to open this month, to power HGVs and help reduce transport emissions.

The depot will be able to refuel up to three vehicles at a time and is expected to save more than 1,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.

Managing Director Justin Dampney said the approval marks an important step for cutting emissions in one of the hardest sectors to decarbonise. He added that the depot could also supply other operators in future, with all fuel made from locally collected food waste.

Biomethane can cut emissions by up to 85 per cent compared with diesel and is increasingly used by logistics and waste companies.

Eco Sustainable Solutions, founded in 1995, employs 53 people and operates sites in Parley, Piddlehinton and Weymouth. Last year, it recycled over 236,000 tonnes of material including more than 60,000 tonnes of food waste.
