£3.5 million Kingston Lacy upgrade completed

Visitors to Kingston Lacy can now enjoy new and improved facilities following the completion of major upgrades to the visitor centre and car park.

Dorset-based Spetisbury Construction has finished a £3.5 million project for the National Trust, designed to improve access, comfort and sustainability across the historic estate near Wimborne.

The visitor car park has been resurfaced and landscaped with better drainage, additional disabled bays, and new electric vehicle charging points. A new pedestrian walkway has been added to make it safer to move between parking areas and the welcome centre.

Inside, the visitor centre has been redesigned to improve flow and accessibility, creating a more welcoming experience for everyone. Staff and volunteer areas have also been upgraded, while the main path to the property has been regraded for easier access.

The toilet block has been modernised with a layout reflecting the building’s original use as Kingston Lacy’s former engine room. It now includes accessible toilets, a Changing Places facility and a family quiet room offering a calm, sensory-friendly space.

Spetisbury Construction Managing Director Justin Ives said it had been a privilege to help enhance such an important local landmark, improving access for visitors while respecting the site’s history.
