Christchurch delays continue for 2nd week

As motorists face another week of delays in Christchurch, Councillor Andy Hadley tells Bournemouth One they hope to finish the roadworks at Fountain Roundabout, which are the Council’s largest single highways project this year, as soon as possible.

He adds that repair work on the Bypass is taking up almost a third of BCP Council’s road maintenance budget this year.

The Councillor, Cabinet Member for Highways Maintenance, said the project is essential to stop the road surface from deteriorating further during the winter months.

He said: “We recognise the disruption this essential work is causing for residents, but we need to fix the road now before the winter gets too severe and the condition of the roundabout gets even worse.”

The work that is being carried out this week affects Eastbound traffic only, with vehicles unable to access the bypass from A35 Fountain Way roundabout till 6am on Monday 10 November.

From 6pm on Monday 10 November, work will take place on the Westbound side – re-opening at 6am on Monday 17 November.

The scheme is the council’s biggest highways project this year and represents about 30% of its total maintenance budget.

Councillor Hadley said traffic management officers are helping to keep vehicles moving while work continues and added that the council is aware of the effect on nearby businesses.

He said the team will continue to monitor the situation closely and complete the repairs as quickly as possible to restore normal traffic flow in the town.
