Christchurch Bypass now closed eastbound
The A35 Christchurch Bypass is now closed eastbound as essential resurfacing and maintenance work gets underway.
The two-week closure started at 6pm and will be followed by a week-long westbound closure from Monday 10 November.
The road will reopen on Mondays to allow access for Christchurch Market, and only one side will be closed at a time.
Diversions suitable for heavy goods vehicles are in place, while temporary traffic lights have been installed on the Avon Causeway and parking restrictions added to Purewell to help manage extra traffic.
The works aim to protect and strengthen one of the area’s busiest routes, improving its resilience for years to come.
Highways teams are using the closure period to carry out a range of additional tasks, including safety upgrades, utility repairs, gully cleaning and vegetation clearance.
Crews will be working day and night using long-lasting materials to ensure the road surface remains durable.
The timing of the project was chosen to avoid the busy summer months and cold winter temperatures, with the alternative being to delay until Easter.
Drivers are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys while the closure is in place.
