Elm Academy praised for leading breakfast club
Elm Academy in Bournemouth West has been recognised by the Education Secretary for leading the way in delivering free breakfast clubs for pupils.
In a special video message, Bridget Phillipson thanked the school’s staff for successfully launching one of the first breakfast clubs under Labour’s national programme. The initiative has already served more than 2.5 million free breakfasts to children across England.
Bournemouth West MP Jessica Toale recently visited the academy to meet staff and pupils, praising their hard work and the positive impact the scheme is having on local families. She said the breakfast clubs help children start their day ready to learn while saving parents hundreds of pounds each year.
The free breakfast clubs form part of the government’s wider Best Start in Life campaign, which aims to improve family services and early years support. Plans include establishing Best Start Family Hubs by April 2026 and extending funded childcare to children from nine months old.
Bridget Phillipson said Elm Academy’s success shows the difference these clubs can make and confirmed Labour’s commitment to ensuring every primary school in Bournemouth West will benefit from the scheme.
