New therapies centre opens in Poole

A new therapies centre has opened in Poole offering vital support to people living with life-limiting illnesses.

Lewis-Manning Hospice Care officially opened Sunflower House on Longfleet Road this week, on Thursday 23 October 2025, welcoming guests including His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset and the Mayor of Poole.

The new centre includes five therapy suites designed to provide a vibrant and welcoming space for patients at the start of their hospice journey. It expands Lewis-Manning’s commitment to help people live well with illness, supporting patients aged from 11 to 97.

Chief Executive Clare Gallie said the new hub reflects a modern approach to palliative care: “When someone is diagnosed with a life-limiting illness, they shouldn’t feel immediately restricted by end-of-life care. Anticipatory palliative care empowers our patients to live well through their illness.”

Sunflower House brings together a range of support including counselling, a lymphoedema clinic, breathlessness services, complementary therapies, and tailored wellbeing programmes. Each patient receives an individual care plan focusing on early intervention and maintaining independence.

Director of Clinical Services Laura Adams said their approach is personal and holistic: “We seek to promote positivity, living well, and happiness across everything we do.”

Over the last year, Lewis-Manning Hospice Care has supported nearly 20% more patients than the previous year, now helping more than 1,200 local residents annually.

The charity thanked its supporters and the wider community for helping to make Sunflower House a reality for Dorset residents.
