Residents call for vote of no confidence
Residents in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole are calling for a formal vote of no confidence in the Leader of BCP Council, Councillor Millie Earl.
The petition follows growing frustration over the decision to press ahead with the creation of new town councils despite around three quarters of consultation respondents opposing the plan.
Calls to delay the scheme until after the 2027 elections were also rejected.
At the time of publication, over two thousand people had signed the petition.
Campaigners say the decision has added more than £1 million in costs at a time when households are already struggling with the cost of living. They argue the new tier of local government brings unnecessary bureaucracy and fails to reflect the wishes of residents.
Concerns have also been raised about transparency, accountability and the way public feedback was handled during the consultation. Some residents and councillors described the debate as falling short of expected standards of respect and openness in public life.
Those behind the petition say it offers an opportunity to restore accountability and ensure the council is led by someone who commands the confidence of both the public and fellow councillors.
They are asking BCP Council to hold a formal vote of no confidence in accordance with the council’s constitution and the Local Government Act 2000.
In responce, A BCP Spokesperson told Bournemouth One: “Only councillors can bring motions of no confidence.
”Upon receipt of the petition, we will process it in line with the provisions of the Constitution.”
