Festival celebrates ageing and connection

Older adults will take centre stage next week as Christchurch hosts the first-ever ElderFest — a new festival celebrating ageing well, connection, and community.

The event, organised by Christchurch Community Partnership and BCP Council’s Age Friendly Network, will be held at Twynham Secondary School on Monday 27 October from 10am to 3pm. Entry is free and open to all.

The one-day festival will feature almost 30 local organisations offering health checks, wellbeing talks, refreshments, and opportunities to connect with community services. From social groups to lifestyle activities, the day will highlight ways to stay active, engaged, and supported in later life.

Sandra Prudom, Chief Executive of Christchurch Community Partnership, said: “ElderFest is a celebration of ageing well and an opportunity for older adults, their families, and professionals to discover the incredible resources available in our community.”

Councillor Sandra Moore, BCP Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Partnerships, said the festival marks the finale of a series of events celebrating International Day of Older People 2025. She added that BCP is proud to be recognised by the World Health Organisation as an Age Friendly Community, saying the day “celebrates the power of our social connections.”

ElderFest aims to show that later life can be full of opportunities to learn, participate, and build lasting connections within the community.
