New affordable homes begin at former bingo site

Work has officially started on transforming Bournemouth’s former Buzz Bingo site into a new affordable homes hub.

The development, led by AJC Group and Aster Group, will deliver forty new energy-efficient homes in the town centre — including thirty-two three-bedroom family houses and eight one-bed apartments.

It marks the first time in more than three decades that new family houses with gardens have been built in Bournemouth’s centre.

Every home will be available for affordable rent through BCP Council’s Homechoice scheme, helping to tackle the town’s shortage of affordable housing.

Jessica Toale, Labour MP for Bournemouth West, said the project was vital to “unlock the future of Bournemouth” by creating a wider mix of homes for local people.

Designed with sustainability and community in mind, the homes will feature tree-lined mews-style streets, shared green spaces, and a community allotment. Each property will include a private garden or balcony, parking, and energy-efficient air source heat pumps.

AJC Group Director David Cracklen said the development symbolised “restoring family life back into the heart of Bournemouth” after years of limited housing choice.

Amanda Williams, Chief Investment Officer at Aster Group, said the project would make a meaningful difference by transforming a disused site into a “vibrant part of the community.”

The scheme builds on AJC and Aster’s previous partnerships in Dorchester and the New Forest.

The first homes are expected to be ready in autumn 2027.
