Rail works in Hamworthy and Poole incoming
Buses will replace trains between Bournemouth and Dorchester South for a week in November while engineers carry out major improvements to the railway in Dorset.
Between Saturday 15 and Friday 21 November, Network Rail will strengthen the railway embankment in Hamworthy and improve drainage at Poole sidings to help protect the line from flooding and ensure greater reliability in future.
Further west, work will also take place on the River Frome bridge near Wool, where engineers will replace the old wooden wheel timbers with modern Fibre-reinforced Foamed Urethane blocks, extending the structure’s life. In addition, improvements will be completed to the footbridge at Wool station.
On Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 November, buses will replace trains between Bournemouth and Dorchester South, with the replacement service running between Poole and Dorchester South from Monday 17 to Friday 21 November.
Mark Goodall, Wessex Route Director for Network Rail, said the work was essential to keep trains running safely and reliably. “Our teams will be working around the clock to strengthen key parts of the railway and improve drainage, helping to make the line more resilient in the years ahead,” he said.
Passengers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys. Information and updates are available at nationalrail.co.uk or through South Western Railway.
