Dorset Police honour bravery and dedication at awards
A devoted team of Dorset Police officers and staff who helped secure justice for a nine-year-old Christchurch girl have been recognised at the latest Dorset Police Awards Ceremony.
The team, made up of response officers, detectives, a 999 call handler and a media officer, received a Chief Constable’s Commendation for their professionalism and compassion throughout the case, which led to the conviction and thirty-year sentence of the offender for attempted murder.
In total, seventeen Chief Constable’s Commendations were presented at the ceremony on Thursday 9th October for exceptional work and dedication. Royal Humane Society awards were also given to officers and staff who showed outstanding courage and bravery in challenging circumstances.
Two police constables and a member of the public received the prestigious Royal Humane Society Resuscitation Certificate for saving a man’s life after finding him unresponsive and not breathing.
Long Service and Good Conduct medals were awarded to twenty-two officers who have each completed at least twenty years of service. Among them was Detective Constable Elizabeth Horrex, who has served in Dorset Police for twenty-four years and now works within the Major Crime Investigation Team.
Chief Constable Amanda Pearson said the ceremony was a chance to pause, reflect and celebrate the dedication of officers, staff and volunteers who “go above and beyond every day to keep people safe.”
Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick praised the professionalism and courage of those recognised, thanking them for their continued commitment to the people of Dorset.
