Over 100 to join YMCA Bournemouth Sleep Easy

Over 130 people will spend a night outdoors later this month to support those facing homelessness as YMCA Bournemouth’s Big Sleep Easy returns.

The event takes place from 6.30pm on Saturday 18th October at The Treehouse, Diverse Abilities, in Hurn.

Participants will build shelters from cardboard and experience a night under the stars to raise funds and awareness of homelessness across Bournemouth.

Money raised will help YMCA Bournemouth continue its work supporting people to achieve independent living and secure positive futures. Former YMCA resident Jess said the charity’s support helped her overcome challenges with both her physical and mental health, adding that “YMCA staff were there for me 24 hours a day and helped me develop the coping skills I needed.”

This year’s event is being held in partnership with Diverse Abilities, a local charity that supports people with disabilities. Its Advice Team reported last year that 20 per cent of those it helped were homeless, equating to around 300 people locally. Funds raised will also go towards sustaining its vital advice services.

The Big Sleep Easy 2025 is sponsored by Dorset law firm Lester Aldridge. Partner Mark Benham said the firm is proud to support two organisations that make a real difference in the community.

Participants are encouraged to set personal fundraising goals, take part in the shelter-building challenge, and spend one night outside to help raise awareness of homelessness and promote resilience within the community.
