Bournemouth businesses thrive after busy summer season
Businesses in Bournemouth are celebrating a successful summer after more than ten million trips were made to the town centre across June, July and August.
Visitor numbers have risen sharply, with the amount of returning visitors more than doubling compared to last year. Events such as Pride, Summer Streets and Proms in the Park played a big role in attracting people.
New venues including Barbara’s Bier Haus, The Botanist, Wenzel’s and Sport It First have opened their doors in recent months, joining independent traders such as Revival, Live On and Blink. Bobby’s also welcomed new retail space alongside The Botanist, which reported its most successful launch to date.
Councillor Millie Earl, Leader of BCP Council, said that businesses and visitors alike have confidence in Bournemouth town centre, pointing to increased investment and rising visitor numbers.
Independent traders also reported strong performance. Rosemary Smith, owner of All Fired Up, said many new and returning customers visited over the summer and the business is looking forward to the months ahead.
The council is preparing to trial a High Street Rental Auction Scheme to help bring empty shop units back into use. Town Centre BID added that events and good weather helped boost footfall and urged continued support for businesses as the run-up to Christmas begins.
Alongside business growth, Dorset Police carried out hundreds of summer patrols, with crime in Bournemouth down year on year and Dorset remaining one of the safest counties to live in.
