Bournemouth seafront to shine with remembrance

Bournemouth’s seafront will be lit with love and remembrance at the annual Light Up the Prom service next month.

The event, organised by University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity, takes place on Monday 3 November at 7pm at Bournemouth Pier Approach. It is dedicated to remembering loved ones with a candlelit gathering, choir music and a fireworks display over the bay.

Those taking part will be given an LED candle to light in memory of someone special. Participants can also write personal messages on paper lanterns as part of the evening.

James Taylor, lead chaplain at University Hospitals Dorset, said it was an evening of “darkness and light” with readings, music and words of comfort followed by fireworks launched from the pier.

Fundraising officer Aurelia Chliwna said the event celebrates the light left behind by those no longer with us and helps bring comfort to patients supported by the hospitals.

Sponsorship is being provided by Coles Miller Solicitors. Managing Partner Adrian Cormack said they were proud to back the event for a second year, describing it as a source of comfort for those who attend and for many more who give their support.

Funds raised at Light Up the Prom will directly support patient care across local hospitals, adding extras such as technology for rehabilitation, toys for children in hospital, and therapies for people living with dementia and those receiving palliative care.
