Driver arrested after police vehicle collision

A man has been arrested after a police officer was taken to hospital following a collision on the A31 at Sturminster Marshall.

The incident happened at around 9.29pm on Monday 29 September when an unmarked police vehicle was involved in a crash with a white BMW between Stag Gate and the Roundhouse Roundabout.

Emergency services attended and the road was closed for a period of time while the scene was cleared. The police officer was treated by ambulance crews and taken to hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening or life-changing. He has since been discharged.

There were no injuries reported to the driver of the BMW. Dorset Police confirmed that a thirty-five-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving offences and enquiries into the collision remain ongoing.

Police Sergeant Mike Burt from the Serious Collision Investigation Team said officers are keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened. He added: “I would also like to hear from anyone who was travelling in the area at the time and may have captured relevant dashcam footage.”

Members of the public were thanked for their patience while road closures were in place. Police have asked anyone with information to contact them quoting occurrence number 55250144857 or to call Crimestoppers anonymously.
