Care home residents do Ferndown memory walk

Residents and staff from Fernhill dementia care home in Longham joined the seven-mile Ferndown Memory Walk to raise awareness of dementia.

The walk formed part of the Ferndown Dementia Friendly Town initiative, which works to educate the community, offer inclusive activities and involve those living with dementia in planning and decision-making.

Starting at 10am, walkers stopped at various points including Fernhill itself before finishing with a lunch at the community allotments close to the home.

A buffet was prepared by Fernhill chef Constantine Pacurar.

Resident Kiki Tormey, who wore a blue Colten Care T-shirt and waved a pom pom to cheer on fellow walkers, said: “What a wonderful thing to do.”

Home Manager Lorraine Bell described the event as a special experience that brought together local businesses, families and residents. Companionship Team Leader Cara Duroe added that supporting the cause was a chance to “walk the walk and stand together as a community in the fight against dementia.”
