Bournemouth Airport strikes suspended after offer

Strike action due to begin at Bournemouth Airport tomorrow has been suspended after an improved pay offer was made to workers.

Around 80 Unite members, including baggage handlers, check-in staff and flight dispatchers, were due to walk out on Tuesday 30 September in a dispute over pay.

Further strikes were planned for 1, 16 and 17 October, but these have also been suspended while union members are given the chance to vote on the new offer.

Unite and airport representatives met for negotiations which resulted in the revised proposal. The details of the deal have not been made public, but Unite has confirmed its members will now take part in a ballot.

Unite regional officer Janet Wall said strike action could have led to major disruption but this has now been avoided to allow members to consider the improved offer.

The outcome of the ballot will determine whether the threat of industrial action is lifted completely or whether strikes could still take place later in the month.
