Morebus marks older people’s day today

Morebus is marking International Day of Older People by asking passengers to consider the challenges senior travellers face when using local services.

The operator says buses provide vital links for many, particularly older people who rely on them to reach shops, hospitals, GP surgeries and friends and family. Those who are state pension age or above are also eligible to travel for free with a concessionary pass arranged through their local authority.

Nikki Honer, head of communications at Morebus, said buses remain central to helping people stay connected and independent. She explained that priority seating is provided close to the doors for those with mobility issues, and on-board audio announcements are available to guide people who may be less familiar with a route.

Drivers have been trained as Dementia Friends to make journeys as stress-free as possible, while new buses feature lighter floors to support those who feel less comfortable in darker spaces. Buses are also fitted with CCTV for added reassurance.

Printed timetables continue to be available alongside the app, and customers can also speak to staff in person at the Poole Bus Station travel shop.

Morebus is encouraging all passengers to be patient and considerate, whether that means offering a seat or allowing extra time for those who find it harder to move quickly. The company says it is about ensuring older people can travel with confidence and continue leading active and involved lives.
