Bournemouth MP supports hospitality positivity campaign
Bournemouth East MP Tom Hayes has given his backing to a new campaign promoting the town’s hospitality sector.
The Check In – Chill Out campaign, launched by the BH Area Hospitality Association, is designed to counter negative national reporting with a focus on the area’s many strengths.
Speaking in Parliament, Mr Hayes raised the cancellation of the Bournemouth Air Festival and used the opportunity to highlight the campaign. He also called for a full debate on tourism in seaside towns, stressing its importance to local economies.
At a constituency meeting with campaign representatives, discussions included the damaging effect of negative coverage. Mr Hayes said Bournemouth is “fantastic, brimming with brilliant people” and pledged to continue working with local partners to make improvements.
Rosie Radwell, Chair of BAHA, said tourism remains vital to the region and stressed the need to focus on what makes the area special. She said it was disheartening to read constant negative stories when crime is falling and the town has much to offer.
As part of the campaign, keepsake tote bags and a promotional video have been released, showcasing the coastline, beaches, nightlife, culture, and maritime heritage of Bournemouth and the south coast.
